I mean, I respect their right to have a lack of belief in anything they want, but somehow they manage to make even their most magnanimous attempts to “accept” religion come off…

The assumption that all religious people feel this way is fucked up as all hell.

And similarly, I would retort that the belief that people who have faith in religion and God are primitive and delusional is profoundly condescending and judgmental. Again, not all atheists do think that, but it is a common refrain from atheists and even if you don’t actually say it outloud to someone religious you’re talking to, doesn’t make it any less true. 

If you believe in and follow the words of the Bible, the book of the Christian religion, you subscribe to the belief that someone who does not believe in God is going to hell. The Bible says that. You don’t get to pick & choose which parts of the Bible you follow, or else you are not a real christian. Same goes for almost any archaic holy book. (I don’t have much knowledge on things like scientology or mormonism. I was raised Roman Catholic.)

If you believe people who don’t believe in god are going to hell, and you have friends who don’t believe in god, that means, according to your beliefs, you are condemning them to hell. That’s logic. That’s YOUR holy book. I am not assuming you think that. Your beliefs make you think that.

And you know what? Yea, I think faith in god, any god, is primitive and delusional. And I am free to think that way, as long as your religion tells me I’m going to hell.
