Sláinte means ‘health’ in gaelic. It’s used in the same way that ‘cheers’ is when your drinking.
Spent an hour doing this instead of all the other work i have to do. I’m definitely going to design a gaelic-inspired typeface in the near future.
Hey followers, old & new, I would like to introduce you to Design Fromage, a collaborative design blog I have recently become a part of. If you are interested in graphic design or typography you should give it a follow, it’s all design, not cluttered with personal stuff like my blog is.
A series of ten postcards that work as a unit.
These are based on my concept of time, which is written on each card. The reason we have powerful natural forces, such as tornadoes and volcanoes is because all of these things get built up over time. It took millions of years to create the conditions necessary for a thunderstorm and almost endless amounts of time for rocks to build and erode away, and water to form a gargantuan waterfall. The reason these spectacular events happen is because of time. Because time keeps everything from happening all at once, and spaces things out gradually, these natural spectacles are allowed to happen.
More work here
I posted one of these a little while ago but Alec suggested I put them all online, so here you go.
This is a photo of one of a series of 10 postcards I made based on my idea of time.
I’ll sell sets if anyone is interested
check my work out online!
the picture links to my behance, my legit website will be online before the weekend is up!
I got a behance, ya’ll! There’s not much on there yet, and I need to do some editing still, but I’m working on it. Check it out if you got a minute though!
Hopefully in the next two weeks I’ll have my real website set up, that’s on my list of things to do that I have no idea how/when to do.
Phenomenon of Weightlessness by Remedios Varo, 1963
You should all check out Remedios Varo. She is a super under-appreciated mexican/spanish surrealist painter. A lot of her work deals with surrealist interpretations of astronomy and physics theories. I just wrote about this painting for my Modern Art & Astronomy class paper, I’m so glad I stumbled across her work. In this one, she’s visualizing Einstein’s special theory of relativity. In the equation, you create a standard graph with X & Y coordinates, and then turn it 30 degrees to account for how time and space shift for different states of motion. In the painting, Varo skews the room by 30 degrees to demonstrate this. It’s surrealism with a direct link to physics and astronomy.
